Vidhya Lockyer - textile artist
Vidhya Lockyer at work

Vidhya was born and brought up in Trinidad. Although very good at art at school she was discouraged from furthering this natural inclination and set out to study Law in London, and then French in Paris. She is married to an Englishman and has been living in England for the past 26 years. Once her two children had completed university, a choice between an English degree and Stitched Textiles/Embroidery had to be made, the creative urge won, and she completed her City and Guilds and Diploma at East Berkshire College, Windsor.

Vidhya's work is generally dimensional and her use of vibrant colours and movement reflects the vitality of her native island.

She is a Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, has been a finalist in the Charles Henry Foyle Trust Award at the Forge Mill Museum Redditch. She has exhibited work at the Mall Galleries London, The Grace Barrand Design Centre in Nutfield Surrey, The Knit and Stitch show at Alexandra Palace London, and Dublin Ireland in 2001. Vidhya had a successful exhibition in the Dordogne, France in 2003.

She is a member of the Wokingham and Windsor & Maidenhead Embroiderer's Guild, and a founder member of the Wraysbury Group of Textile Artists.

Work in progress is prompted by words and by music and musical variations, and is certain to be vibrant and dimensional.
